Let the Masterpieces Breathe on Your Desk|A Corner of Light 8×8 Art Lamp
Let a masterpiece breathe on your desk. Turn a stroke of blue from The Starry Night and a sweep of gold from The Kiss into a lamp of your own.
A Corner of Light · atelier is an offline 8×8 art lamp: the original painting is shown on the left of the screen and the mosaic light on the right, while an RGB LED matrix turns the artwork into a little patch of color on your desk.
The cover is an artistic light illustration; the images that follow show the actual device screen and studio previews.
What you need
An ESP-Mosaico main board + an 8×8 RGB LED matrix module. The matrix can be plugged into either the left or right slot, and the app detects the slot and compensates for orientation. Without the matrix you can still view the screen preview and use the drawing features; the interface shows "Light matrix not connected".
Let the masterpieces glow
Eight public-domain paintings are built in: The Starry Night, Mona Lisa, Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Scream, The Great Wave off Kanagawa, The Kiss, Impression, Sunrise and Sunflowers.
- The full composition of each painting is converted into 64 color blocks, preserving the main colors and contours.
- Supports steady light, breathing, ripple, and automatic slideshow of paintings.
- Default 65% brightness, 4-second breathing; brightness levels 15 / 25 / 35 / 50 / 65 / 80 / 100%, rhythms 2 / 4 / 6 / 10 seconds.
- Black background, cream mat, cut-paper buttons and serif type turn the small screen into a nighttime studio.
Paint your own light picture
Tap "Canvas" at the top to enter the 8×8 pixel studio. Choose a color and touch to paint; the actual LED matrix follows in real time.
Supports an 8-color palette, brush, connected fill, eraser, left/right symmetry, whole-stroke undo/redo, undoable clear, and copying the current painting to recolor. After saving, "My Works" is added to the gallery and can keep breathing. One custom save slot is currently available; saving again replaces it.
Controls
- Tap the left/right arrows, or swipe horizontally in the painting area: change painting.
- Tap the LED matrix preview on the right: rotate 90°.
- Tap "Brightness" / "Rhythm" at the bottom: cycle through levels.
- Tap "Lights off / Lights on": control the matrix.
- The painting, rotation, light effect, dimming and saved works are remembered; you can power off after a successful save.
0.8.0 update
Raises the default brightness, shortens the default breathing period, opens dimming up to 100%, and computes breathing using actual elapsed time. After upgrading, a 65% / 4-second preset is applied once, after which user adjustments are preserved; existing works, paintings, slideshow, rotation and on/off state keep their values.
Includes the light matrix orientation fix from 0.7.1. Hardware verification used a Mosaico with a left-side light matrix: the firmware health check passed, the display was normal and the light matrix was recognized successfully. Right-side orientation compensation has code and mapping tests but has not been accepted on hardware in the right slot.
100% is a dimming level: bright images are automatically limited according to the total output budget, preserving the breathing amplitude. The 8×8 matrix shows hazy colors and large contours; the optical brightness of the screen preview and the actual lights will differ.
Installation and assets
An 0.8.0 Iris update package matching the hardware verification is provided, consisting of the app and partition table and preserving the Mosaico built-in Vibe Mode. Connect the light matrix after installation and it is ready to use; daily operation needs no network.
The main app code is Apache-2.0; the paintings are public domain / PD-Art, and the Source Han Sans SC, Noto Serif SC and Cormorant Garamond fonts use SIL OFL 1.1. Asset sources and license texts are in the accompanying notices file.
